ASP Workshop #2: Outlining and Course Summaries

Are you worried about your course outlines?  Have you tried to work on them, but you just don’t know where to start?  Are you unsure if your outline is as effective as it could be?  If you answered “Yes!” to any of those questions, then you need to attend one of our outlining workshops next week.

The Academic Success Department will host the second in its series of ASP workshops geared toward first-semester students titled Outlining and Course Summaries.  On Tuesday, September 11th, we will be at The Flats at Kernan from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the clubhouse.  Please feel free to attend even if you are not a resident of The Flats.  The address is 4850 First Coast Tech Parkway, Jacksonville, FL 32224.  On Friday, September 14th, there will be an encore presentation from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in room 250.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the workshops next week!

Study Schedule Presentation and Online Meeting Requests

Study Schedule Presentation

Below is a link to the vodcast of last week’s Academic Success Workshop: Creating a Study Schedule.  After viewing, if you would like to meet with a counselor to discuss your own study schedule, please feel free to schedule an appointment with us!

Online Meeting Requests

Did you know that you can schedule an appointment with your preferred Academic Success Counselor without setting foot on campus?  The Academic Success Department has created an online form for you to use to schedule an appointment with one of our counselors.  Below is a direct link to the form:

Schedule Request Here

This form allows you to designate the type of meeting you’d like to have, select the counselor you’d like to meet with, identify your own availability, and add any necessary comments.  Once the form has been processed, you will receive a meeting invitation from our department.  Please accept that appointment and arrive at your scheduled time.

Important Note About Scheduling Appointments with Your Outlook Calendar

Many of you have commented that there are time discrepancies between scheduled meeting times and the times that you see when you receive your invite from us.

This is most likely due to to your Outlook time zone settings. You can correct this issue yourself by going into Outlook, pulling down the File Tab, clicking Options at the bottom, clicking Calendar on the left side, and then changing your time zone to US and Canada.

Alternatively, you can take your computer to the Help Desk on the second floor of the library and they can change the settings for you.

Creating a Weekly Study Schedule – Day 1

Have you found yourself wondering how you’re possibly going to complete all the tasks in front of you for any given day?  Students often find that they need to make study schedules to ensure they spend adequate time with all subjects and materials and are prepared for their exams.  In law school, time management is difficult due to the amount of work required.  A study schedule can help you maintain your daily assignments, include time to review and work on outlines, and have some personal time. Please check back tomorrow for some tips on getting started on your study schedule!

If you would like to hear more information about making your own study schedule, please join us for the first Academic Success Department workshop of the semester.  The topic is Creating a Study Schedule and it will be held on Tuesday, August 28, from noon – 1 p.m. in room 250.  An encore presentation will be offered on Friday, August 31, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in room 250.  You do not need to RSVP to attend.
