Mock Trial concludes its IC and much, much more

The Mock Trial team concluded its Internal Competition (IC) finals this past Thursday. The IC is the first competition for this year’s 36 new members who earned an invitation to join Mock Trial. The preparation and advocacy skills displayed throughout the IC were outstanding. The team appreciates the great work of the coaches, faculty and guest judges who evaluated and scored the preliminary rounds.

The top scoring Prosecution team in the final rounds was Sharmila Bhagwandeen and Warda Ali. The top scoring Defense team was Aladejola Adigun and Kelly Brannon. Federal Magistrate Judge James Klindt presided over the final round. The scoring panel included attorneys Mary Bland Love and Stephanie Eubanks. Congratulations to the IC winners, Aladejola Adigun and Kelly Brannon. The Best Advocate award for the preliminary rounds went to Ashley Townsend. The Best Advocate award for the final round went to Kelly Brannon. Great work by everyone.

The local law firm of Spohrer and Dodd will sponsor the third annual Spohrer & Dodd Trial Advocacy Scholarship Competition October 13th, from 6-8 p.m. in the courtroom (room 450). This prestigious competition is open to members of the Coastal Law mock trial team who have either successfully competed in external competitions last year or who scored in the top ten at this year’s internal competition. After a lengthy try-out process that was completed this weekend, the top mock trial team members who qualified to compete in the Spohrer & Dodd competition are:

The Clinic has announced beginning on Tuesday, a series of informational and question & answer sessions regarding five in-house clinics and numerous credit-bearing externships will be held. The dates and times for these meetings are as follows:

· Tuesday, Sept 20th 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Room 425

· Thursday, Sept 22nd 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Room 425

· Friday, Sept 23rd 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Room 425

· Monday, Sept. 26th 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Room 425

It is highly recommended that you attend one of these meetings if you wish to learn about gaining practical legal experience while earning credit.
