GAL Appreciation, Spohrer & Dodd Trial Advocacy Scholarship Competition and Family Day

On Saturday, October 1, 2011, The Guardian ad Litem Program for the Fourth Judicial Circuit and Voices for Children of the First Coast held its annual GAL Appreciation Banquet honoring those who serve as voices for abused and neglected children. Ms. Hilary Creary, the Circuit Director for the 4th Judicial Circuit, presented Florida Coastal School of Law with the 2011 Community Commitment Award for our school’s dedication, service, and commitment to the program.

A number of our law students volunteer as voices for abused children in the dependency court system and as legal interns assisting the attorneys for the GAL program. In addition, our Student Bar Association made a significant donation to this program following the successful 2011 SBA Charity Ball. Ms. Creary presented the award to Ms. Shyla Bostick, a volunteer and legal intern, who accepted on behalf of Coastal Law. Several of the student volunteers and interns were in attendance, including Chavelys Alers, Alexei Lizanich, Stacey DeVall, Casey Grimes, and Shyla Bostick. Kelley Corbari and Jessica Sexton were the Co-Chairs for the 2011 Charity Ball supporting GAL.
