A FOUNDATIONAL PROGRAM FOR LAW STUDENTS

The primary goal of the program is to provide law students with a foundational guide for success in their preparation to enter the legal field. The program will include resume’ and writing sample editing and advice on the proper dress for various professional settings. There will be a special presentation by Judge Carole Y. Taylor of the Fourth District Court of Appeal on “Judicial Clerkships in a Nutshell.” Daryl Manning will provide information on behalf of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners regarding the application process.

Diversity in the Legal Profession

Diversity in the Legal Profession Panel Discussion

The panel will include a candid discussion on the importance of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and ways to be successful in the profession without compromising one’s self or identity. The panelists will include attorneys that represent various affinity groups. The members of the panel are professionals that are involved in the legal community and are a great asset to the profession. After the panel discussion, there will be an opportunity for Q&A.

The health care debate has been heard by the Supreme Court.  But what was argued and why?  What are the potential effects to your health care?  Join us as we host local experts who will debate the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) at a health care symposium.

LGBT Legal Symposium at the University of Mississippi School of Law

LGBT Symposium               

LGBT The University of Mississippi School of Law will be hosting the 2nd Annual LGBT Legal Symposium on March 23rd, 2012 at the Robert C. Khayat Law Center.

 Like last year, the Symposium will feature well-known names within the LGBT legal community, and present classes on topics such as Transgender Marriages, Wills and Estates, Custody Issues, Cyber-Bullying and GSA Formation.  D’Arcy Kemnitz, Executive Director of the National LGBT Bar Association, will be moderating a panel on Ethics and Diversity in the Legal Profession.  4.5 CLE credits, which includes 1 Ethics Hour, are available for attending attorneys.

 The Symposium may be attended either in person, or we are able to offer 25 seats for attendance through live streaming video over the Internet.

 Registration for either type of attendance is $125 (faculty and students attend free of charge). Lunch is included in the registration fee. To register, please print and fill out the registration form and return to address indicated on the form along with a check or money order for the registration fee.
