Public Service Recognition Week May 5-11, 2013

Public Service Recognition WeekPublic Service Recognition Week is coming up May 5-11. This week is an annual celebration honoring the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees.  Agencies use this week to showcase the programs and services they provide .Included in the events of the week is a town hall discussion where Federal agency leaders will discuss the value of government service, how to communicate that value to the American people, and ways to support and motivate employees in this challenging and uncertain environment. The discussion will be moderated by Cokie Roberts. This town hall will be held on Monday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. It will be a great opportunity for you to “meet” some heavy hitters in government service and to learn about their various organizations. Tomorrow – US Citizenship and Immigration Services Open House

Department-of-Homeland-SecurityThe U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Office of Homeland Security is having an open house at its Jacksonville Field Office tomorrow, Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 5 – 7 pm. The open house will provide an opportunity to meet Jacksonville’s Field Office Director and staff members, tour the office, and learn more about immigration topics.

To RSVP for this event and get the address, log onto Symplicity. If attending, be sure to bring photo identification and plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time to complete the security process.

Georgia Public Interest Summer Internship Grant

monopolyYoung Lawyers Division of the Georgia State Bar presents the Public Interest Internship Program Committee of the Young Lawyers Division is now accepting applications for 2013 summer funding.

Law students and recent law school graduates may apply for limited $5,000 grants to fund unpaid full-time summer internships in public interest law. The purpose of this program is to expand the number of students and young lawyers pursuing opportunities in public interest law. Applicants must have secured an unpaid internship in a law-related non-profit or government agency. Eligible internships must involve a commitment equivalent to ten (10) full-time weeks of work.

Applications are due no later than April 1, 2013, at 5 p.m.  Applicants will be notified of grant awards by May 1 and funds will be disbursed by June 30.  Log onto Symplicity for instructions on how to apply for this grant.

Southeastern Minority Job Fair

SEMJFRegistration for SEMJF will begin on April 3, 2013 and will end on April 19, 2013. Registration is FREE! Students will be able to register in the Atrium during Coffee Wednesdays, on Symplicity, or by email. To register via email contact Amber Williams at arwilliams@fcsl.edu.

This year’s job fair will be held at the Hyatt Regency Suites Perimeter Northwest in Marietta, Georgia on Friday, July 26 & Saturday, July 27, 2013

 

Public Interest Research Bureau Information Session

Put this on your calendarJoin members of the Public Interest Research Bureau to learn more about what they do and how you can be a part of this rewarding organization.  Make a difference in the lives of the poor, develop critical legal skills, and acquire essential writing and research experience.

Deadline Tomorrow – Paid Employment Law Internship

Don't ForgetTomorrow is the deadline to apply for the The Florida National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) Fellowship!  The NELA Fellowship is a great opportunity for 1L’s and 2L’s who are interested in employment law to secure a PAID ($4,000) summer internship gaining experience with a law firm representing individual employees in cases involving employment discrimination, employee benefits, illegal workplace harassment and retaliation, and other employment related matters. The application deadline has been extended to 3/15/13. Additional information and application instructions can be found on the CSD bulletin board and on Symplicity.
