The Atlanta Bar Association covers all counties in the greater metropolitan Atlanta area and offers numerous opportunities for networking. If you like to run, as many of my students do, then consider attending their “11th Annual Legal Runaround” on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Piedmont Park Main Pavilion. Runners are a very congenial group, so you will have a fantastic time and get to know some great attorneys. Moreover, you will already have something in common with everyone else there – you like to run and you support community programs. The run benefits the scholarship fund for children of Atlanta police officers killed or critically injured in the line of duty, which is a great cause. So lace up those shoes and hit the ground running!

One of the best ways to network with practitioners is at Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”) events, which all attorneys must attend annually per State Bar regulations. For example, you might consider attending any of the following events sponsored by the State Bar of Georgia and its Institute of Continuing Legal Education. Reach out to the presenters, who are generally experts in their given field, and chat casually with those seated around you. Remember to ask for cards and to follow up after the seminar for more one-on-one discussions.
