BACKGROUND
Prior to joining the Florida Coastal School of Law, Professor Thurston practiced criminal law for six years as a prosecutor in Orlando. She prosecuted violent and non-violent juvenile offenders, felony offenders, violent and non-violent misdemeanor offenders, and domestic violence cases in both Orange and Osceola counties. Professor Thurston was the lead attorney in over 100 jury trials. She was the only prosecutor to specialize in Domestic or Dating Violence Sex Crimes, where she maintained an 89% conviction rate.
Currently, Professor Thurston is an Academic Success Counselor where she works with first, second, and third year students seeking to improve academic performance. She especially enjoys working with students with other academic challenges including learning disabilities, social difficulties, and acclamation issues. Professor Thurston teaches Law School Foundations and Law School Foundations II. After a student graduates, Professor Thurston also maintains her mentorship throughout the bar exam study process.
