Moot Court Teams Excel at National Competitions

As reported earlier, a Coastal Law moot court team that competed in the National Sexual Orientation Moot Court Competition hosted by UCLA advanced to the finals following the preliminary competition several weeks ago.  The return trip to Los Angeles was a complete success!

The team defeated NYU Law School in the finals. The final round was benched by state supreme court justices from Oregon, New Mexico and Georgia.  The team members were Lisa De Long (oralist), Renatha Francis (oralist), Kristina Lawrence (brief writer/oralist) and Candace Weeks (Team Manager). Professor Sander Moody coached the team.  In addition to the championship, Lisa De Long received the tournament's Best Advocate Award.
A second team reached the final round of the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition's Miami Regional. This Regional drew 32 teams from around the country. Our team members were Mindy Harrigan (oralist), Jenn Dunne (oralist), Alex Apolito (brief writer) and Brian Leeds (Team Manager). Professor Moody coached the team. Mindy Harrigan and Jenn Dunne tied each other with the highest scores to win the Best Advocate Award, topping the nearly 100 other advocates at the competition.
