Florida Coastal would like to congratulate Professor Lois Ragsdale on being one of seven distinguished individuals selected for the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid President’s Award at the 14th annual Robert J. Beckham Equal Justice Award Celebration on January 15 at The River Club.
Professor Ragsdale, who had been a board member for over a year, was selected for this award by the out-going board president for her dedicated service to JALA in 2012. The Equal Justice Award Celebration is an annual event for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, honoring the spirit of philanthropy and volunteerism in the legal community in Northeast Florida.
Ragsdale spear-headed the search committee for the new Executive Director, which was formed by the Board of Directors in the Spring of 2012 shortly after the then Executive Director, Michael Figgins, announced his departure from JALA. Professor Ragsdale, who stated it was nice to be recognized, lead the group through the entire search process, from job posting, resume review, interview, and eventually extending an offer; a process which took over 9 months.
The celebration also recognized Equal Justice honoree, Paul Doyle, who was selected for his dedication to the delivery of civil legal services to low-income individuals. Doyle’s dedication to civil legal service dates back to the early 1970’s with JALA and has served as the director of The Florida Bar Foundation's Legal Assistance for the Poor, and Law Student Assistance Grant Programs since 1991.
