Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc. seeks to sponsor candidates for the upcoming Equal Justice Works and Skadden Fellowship application process.  Legal Services is looking for candidates, with a strong commitment to public service, who have creative project proposals which address a compelling and unmet community need.

Possible fellowship topic areas could include, but are not limited to:
Protecting the rights of low-income taxpayers
Ensuring access to quality healthcare and public benefits
Protecting the rights of consumers and low-wage workers
Preserving and creating affordable housing
Protecting the rights of tenants and homeowners
Advocating for the rights of mobile home park residents
Reentry Justice
Advocating for the LGBTQ+ community
Racial Justice Project

Legal Services is committed to achieving equal justice and eradicating the barriers to economic and social stability created by poverty and injustice.  Founded in 1966, Legal Services provides the full range of civil legal services with a focus on housing, consumer, community development, income, health, tax, and education issues. Special projects provide services to meet the unique legal needs of special populations including immigrants, veterans, older adults, disabled individuals, people experiencing homeless, formerly incarcerated individuals, people living with HIV/AIDS, transgender individuals, and low-income taxpayers. In the past decade, Legal Services has hosted several Equal Justice Works Fellows and Skadden Fellows. Recent successful fellowships involved mobile home park advocacy, the Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Project, enforcing tenants’ rights in Liberty City, advocating for veterans, and working with homeless families at Lotus House. Application Process
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, unofficial transcript, and a 1-2 page preliminary project proposal. Applications are due to Legal Services by Friday August 5, 2022.  Questions about the application process may be sent to Jayme Cassidy, Chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Professional Development Officer at:  Legal Services will select candidate(s) by mid-August 2022. The selected fellowship candidate(s) will work with Legal Services to develop fellowship applications which will be due in September 2022. These two-year fellowships start in Fall 2023.

The ideal fellowship candidate will have:
Passion for racial and economic justice.
Prior experience working with low-income communities and under-served populations.
Excellent research, writing, public speaking, organizational and collaboration skills, and prior successful experience managing independent projects or assignments.
Law school clinic, externship, or other relevant practical experience.
Recently graduated from law school or expect to graduate by May 2022, and be admitted, or plan to seek admission, to the Florida Bar.

The positions are contingent on a successful fellowship application. Starting salary is $54,000 for unadmitted/ $60,000 admitted first year. Excellent benefit package provided. The attorney selected for the Fellowship will work at Legal Services’ office located at 4343 West Flagler St., Ste. 100, Miami, Florida 33134.
